• Purpose
  This research is carried out by the Foundation for Promotion of Material Science and Technology of Japan (hereinafter referred to as "MST") as one of the projects stipulated in Article 4 of the Articles of Incorporation for the purpose of promoting material science and technology.
• Application Guidelines                   
  1. Intended Research Project
     Research Grant
      　In principle, the research should be in the field of advanced science and technology, and should be "basic research related to new materials and methods for evaluating and measuring the physical properties of such materials" or "basic research and analytical evaluation in the field of biotechnology".
      
     Joint Research
     　In principle, "basic research in advanced scientific and technological fields such as biotechnology, soft materials, semiconductors, energy, and nondestructive testing, and methods for evaluating and measuring the physical properties of these materials".        
  2. Eligibility
     
     • Applicants must be under the age of 50 as of January 1, 2021.
     • We ask private companies to refrain from the application. In addition, if you have received a grant from MST in the past, please refrain from the application so that we can provide an opportunity for many researchers to receive the grant.
     • All nationalities are welcome, but only those who belong to organizations in Japan. Even if you are currently affiliated with an overseas organization, if you plan to return to Japan by January 1, 2021, you are eligible for the grant (please consult with us if you plan to return to Japan later). In this case, you will be required to provide documentation that confirms your planned affiliation with an institution in Japan."
  3. Application Period
      Thursday, April 16, 2020, to Sunday, May 31, 2020
     *No applications will be accepted after the above application period.

  5. Overview of Research

     1)  Period of Research
      　In principle, the period from January 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

     2)  Budget per Subject
     Research grant
      　As a general rule, the grant is 1,000,000 yen. However, this does not apply to cases where significant results are expected.
     
     Joint Research Fund
      　As a general rule, the fund is 1,000,000 yen. A breakdown of the research expenses is as follows: 500,000 yen will be given to the researcher and up to an amount equivalent to 500,000 yen will be used for analysis and evaluation at MST. However, this does not apply if an agreement has been made between the parties in charge of the research.

  6. Grant Conditions.
       　You will be asked to submit your research results or a progress report on your research.
     If there are no publicly available results (papers, external presentations, etc.) during the research period, the researcher will be required to submit a report of the results even after the research period is over.
     　When publishing research results, please indicate in part of the published paper that this research was funded by MST.
